Israeli Shlichim
MJCCA Day Camps Connection to Israel
Each summer Israeli shlichim (ambassadors) come to work as members of the MJCCA Day Camps summer staff. These carefully selected, highly trained young adults bring Israel to life at camp.
They enhance each camper’s experience at the MJCCA by giving them a personal connection to Israel and helping to infuse Israeli culture into the MJCCA Day Camps experience. Their dedication, enthusiasm, and creative approach to weaving Israeli culture into MJCCA Days Camps gives campers a stronger appreciation of their own connection to the Jewish homeland.
The shlichim come to the MJCCA through a partnership with the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI). The JAFI Summer Shlichim Program helps to strengthen the relationship with Israel and sends Israeli summer shlichim to work as counselors and specialists in summer camps in over 200 communities. Each shaliach goes through a tremendous amount of screening, interviewing, and training before arriving in their host city.
Shlichim Hosting Opportunity
Hosting is a great opportunity to expose your children to Israeli culture and to build a lifelong relationship. As a host family, you’ll be required to provide three meals a day. You’ll also be required to provide transportation to and from camp each day; however, if host families are planning to use our bus transportation for their children, the shlichim are welcome to ride the bus to and from camp as well. Host families are encouraged to immerse the shlichim in their lives and make them feel like part of the family!
In addition to the meaningful experience of housing one of our shlichim (Israeli ambassadors) on staff, host families will also receive free Before-Camp, After-Camp Care or bus transportation, and a $200 Kroger gift card.
